Best Places to Live in Ecuador

Where to live in Ecuador

Most of Ecuador is beautiful. However, we really do believe there is one area that is better than the rest of the county, for several reasons. That area is the southern tip of Ecuador, anywhere close to the Vilcabamba Valley (the Valley of Longevity).

The southern fourth of Ecuador is south of the Equator.

The southern fourth of Ecuador does not have the big (and active) volcanoes that the northern half has.

The southern fourth of Ecuador has fewer devastating earthquakes than the northern half. The southern fourth of Ecuador has many of the expat communities.

The southern fourth of Ecuador has areas of idea climate. The northern half of Ecuador is 80% tropical rainforest or tropical monsoon. The southern fourth has ample rain but is dryer, less humid, and has seasonal rains (it rains in the southern hemisphere summer – November through March.)

The southern fourth of Ecuador borders Peru, the northern half borders Columbia. The southern fourth of Ecuador is less populated than the northern half.

The southern fourth of Ecuador is close to the top beach resort of Salinas, where wind surfing, sailing, yachting, beach combing, parasailing, sky diving, jet skiing, sunbathing, whale watching, deep-sea fishing, water skiing, and other activities are popular in a quality resort setting. Though we do not recommend living on the coast, being close to this wonderful area for vacations is an added plus.

The area of the Vilcabamba is where hundreds of Americans and Europeans are expatriating. The need to have local expats to help you with the cultural and lifestyle differences is a MUST in a 3rd world country.

The land costs are very reasonable in the Vilcabamba.

Therefore, our recommendation is for you to look at the Vilcabamba Valley for expatriation to Ecuador.
